5 out of 5 stars Dance yourself dizzy!!!   September 4, 2010

Disco music. Some of the sounds are reminiscent of the Human League, Gary Numan and other 80s greats but it's all very Scissor Sisters. Great album.

5 out of 5 stars Top Of The Pile   July 1, 2010

So how much fun is Scissor Sisters' new album 'Night Work'?
Well, if any of you get a bigger dose of FUN this side of
Christmas let me know and I'll wear an Andy Pandy hat for
a week. (Trust me that's not a good look!) Let's listen.

Mr Mapplethorpe's 1980 photograph of Mr Read's pert derriere
may well be some cheeky statement of intent but this release
sits very much more at the top of the pile than at the bottom!

It is simply glorious, incandescent, life-enchancing pop music
of the very finest calibre. Funny, funky, clever and uplifting.

Mr Shears is on top form. His extraordinary falsetto seems
ever more developed. It has the capacity to cut though a tune
like a hot knife through butter (the neo-eighties disco
splendour of 'Any Which Way' is a particularly striking example).
Ms Matronic is in fine form too. No second fiddle she!
Together their voices define the increasingly distinctive
Sisters' sound. Their harmonies and playful interplay on title
track 'Night Work' are absolutely stunning.

It's all good. Not a dull moment at all but two tracks stand
out for especial mention. Single 'Fire With Fire' is the kind of
anthem which can make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck
if you drop your reservations and let it in. There's a whiff of
late-eighties Erasure in its good-natured, fast-beating heart and
there's nothing wrong with that at all! Exhilarating stuff!!
'Skin Tight' too, after only a few listens seems to have become
a firm favorite in the Wolf Cave. It's impossible to sit still to!
A beat so infectious it should be quarantined and a chorus which
bursts into the world like a hundred rainbows (it segues very
neatly with the Moroder-esque 'Sex and Violence' if you want to
carry on dancing without pausing for breath!)

From strength to strength; ever onward and upward; Scissor Sisters
are the ideal antidote to recession blues and global pessimism.

The message is simple. It's good to party!!

Essential.

I love their previous work, but this is the 1st of their albums which I like all the way through and I just can't stop listening to it. I love playing it on my way to work and it really gets rid of those morning blues. Reminiscent of 70's & 80's disco, which I just love. My favourites are the title track, running out (which reminds me of sparks, remember them?) and invisible light. Truly a great album and a must have in your cd collection.
