Thailand's Queen Sirikit has been advised to stay in hospital for two more weeks.

The 75-year-old monarch, who is being treated for bronchitis and flu at Bangkok's Chulalongkorn Hospital, is said be recovering well but still needs plenty of rest, according to hospital director Adisorn Patradul.

The queen was taken to hospital after complaining of a fever and a bad cough last Sunday (09.03.08). Tests revealed she was suffering from the lung condition and a severe cold.

In 2006, the queen had surgery for cataracts and other eye problems, forcing her to hold back from public duties for several months.

The Thai Royal Family have been beset with health problems in recent times.

Last year Sirikit's 80-year-old husband King Bhumibol Adulyadej was hospitalised for more than three weeks after being admitted with a blood shortage to his brain and suffering from a colon infection.

The king's sister Princess Galyani Vadhana died aged 84 in January, seven months after she was diagnosed with abdominal cancer.
