Thailand's Queen Sirikit has been hospitalised with bronchitis.
The 75-year-old monarch was admitted to Bangkok's Chulalongkorn Hospital with the lung condition yesterday (09.03.08) after suffering from a fever and a bad cough, the Royal Bureau Household announced.
A statement revealed the queen was diagnosed with bronchitis and a cold, and will undergo tests and remain under medical observation for several days.
In 2006, the queen had surgery for cataracts and other eye problems, forcing her to hold back from public duties for several months.
The Thai royal family have been beset with health problems in recent times.
Last year Sirikit's 80-year-old husband King Bhumibol Adulyadej was hospitalised for more than three weeks after being admitted with a blood shortage to his brain and suffering from a colon infection.
The king's sister Princess Galyani Vadhana died aged 84 in January, seven months after she was diagnosed with abdominal cancer.
