Thailand's Queen Sirikit visited her husband King Bhumibol Adulyadej in hospital yesterday (05.11.07).

The queen handed out food to well wishers as she arrived at Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital to spend some time with the king.

The king - who was admitted to hospital more than three weeks ago with a weakness down his right side caused by an inadequate blood flow to the brain - is said to be regaining strength and has stepped up his physical activity and exercise.

Meanwhile, the king's 84-year-old sister Princess Galyani Vadhana - who is also a patient at Siriraj Hospital where she is being treated for abdominal cancer - has been diagnosed with a mild fever.

Yesterday, thousands of Thai citizens gathered at the banks of Bangkok's Chao Phraya River to watch a royal barges parade for the king's 80th birthday, which he will celebrate on December 5.

A total of 52 traditional Thai long tail boats manned by more than 2,000 Thai Navy oarsmen, guardsmen, drummers and singers in colourful uniforms sailed along the river to the revered Wat Arun, or the Temple of Dawn.

The king assigned his son Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn to preside over the grand ceremony on his behalf.
