Queen Elizabeth's fund denial

1 month ago 25th Sep 14:00

The British Government has reportedly refused to give the country's royal family more money to look after their castles.

Palace aides are said to be desperate for more cash to help with maintenance work on the Royal Estate, despite receiving a £15m contribution on top of the £7.9m civil list - which pays for Queen Elizabeth's public functions - every year.

Ministers have also received pleas for more public money to go towards the monarchy's fuel, food and staffing costs.

Royal representatives have reminded the government of their constitutional obligation to make sure the queen has plenty of money.

Government departments get VAT exemption services, why shouldn't we?

If the government does not back down on the requests it is claimed the royal family will be forced to cut back on public spending.

More than £32million is needed to repair all of the queen's properties - including Berkshire's Windsor Castle - in the next 10 years.

One aide is quoted in Britain's The Independent newspaper as saying: "We have spent a lot of time trying to convince the Department for Culture, Media and Sport of the merits of our case but I'm not convinced they are listening very carefully to our arguments."
