The soldiers were attempting to capture John Farquharson of Inverey, who was participating in the uprising against the government.Farquharson managed to escape. He later returned and burnt down the castle to ensure the government could not use it.Farquharson's ghost is now said to haunt the property. Other apparitions include a young woman, a Scottish piper and a crying baby thought to be an infant murdered in the castle.
