Saudi King's lobbied by female drivers

Debate over the law was last raised two years ago when politician Mohammed al Zulfa asked his colleagues to consider allowing women over 40 to be allowed to drive unaccompanied on city streets but chaperoned by a male guardian on highways.

However, his suggestions led to calls for him to be stripped of his Saudi citizenship, as many felt he was encouraging women to discard their veils and mix with men.
