Earl Spencer, the brother of Britain's Princess Diana, arrived in the US yesterday (06.09.07) to promote his new range of furniture.
Charles Spencer - who has launched a range of reproduction antiques from Althorp, the North Hamptonshire family home he and the late princess one shared - began his 18-date tour of US furniture stores in Dallas, Texas.
The earl's US publicists insist there is no connection between the visit and the 10th anniversary of Diana's death last Friday (31.08.07).
However they have made no attempt to deny that Diana's link to the furniture range features prominently in the appeal of the 300-item Althorp Living History Collection to the US market.
Around 50 prospective Texan customers gathered at McGannon Showrooms yesterday lunchtime to hear the earl speak about the pieces, which range in price from a $175 picture frame to a $21,299 bookcase.
Each guest was given a leaflet of "etiquette tips" advising them how to behave around the British aristocrat.
The leaflet - which advised guests to address him first as Earl Spencer "and then you may call him Charles thereafter" - asked prospective buyers to "please refrain from asking questions about the princess or the British Royal Family".
