Camilla's decreasing duties

4 months ago 02nd Jul 14:00

Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, performed 201 official engagements last year, a 10 per cent decrease on the previous 12 months.

Camilla - who is married to Britain's Prince Charles - carried out the least amount of duties of any senior members of the royal family.

Clarence House said the 10 per cent reduced workload for the Camilla was caused by the two months' convalesence she required after a hysterectomy last year.

The operation was carried out at London's King Edward VII hospital where her father-in-law Prince Philip was treated for a chest infection this year.

The duchess required convalesence. Her engagements are about the same as last year.

Sir Michael Peat, Charles' private secretary, said: "The duchess required convalesence. Her engagements are about the same as last year."

By contrast, Queen Elizabeth carried out 440 and Charles 609 engagements at home and overseas.

The Duke of Edinburgh, 87, carried out more than 350 official functions.
