Artist Of The Month: The Jonas Brothers

As we slip from September into October, the time comes to honour yet another band who have captured our attention over the past month and this time it's the turn of those sweet siblings that make up The Jonas Brothers.

The guys seem to have grabbed more headlines that Britney this month but despite the fact that they are only just hitting headlines on British shores; they have actually been around for quite a while before they got their big break.

The band is made up of three brothers; Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Nick Jonas and initially gained their popularity from appearing on the Disney Channel. They begin to find fame in 2005 when they went on several tours including being the opening act of Kelly Clarkson, Jesse McCartney, the Backstreet Boys, and The Click Five.

They released their first single Mandy on 27 December 2005 before embarking on a tour with US teen sensations Ally and AJ the following summer. During this time their music found its way onto lots of children’s television programmes

Tragedy struck for the teeny boppers when they were dropped by Columbia Records in early 2007 and left with nowhere to go. But being the tough cookies that they are, they picked themselves up again and bagged their way onto Hollywood Records in February that year.

Their self-titled album, Jonas Brothers, was released on 7 August 2007 and reached number five on the Billboard Hot 200 chart in its first week. Two singles with music videos were also released around this time - "Hold On" two weeks before, and "S.O.S." just after the release of the album.

In that same month the guys appeared on the show Hannah Montana and struck up a great relationship with it's star; Miley Cyrus.

So what have they been up to that's warrants their title as Artist Of The Month I hear you ask... well, they kicked off their Look Me In the Eyes Tour at the end of January 2008 and then unleashed yet another fantastic album on us. A Little Bit Longer, was released in the United States on August 12, 2008.

They even found time to fit in a movie called Camp Rock where they play a band called "Connect Three." Joe plays the lead male role and lead singer "Shane Gray"; Nick plays the role of "Nate," a guitarist; and Kevin plays the role of "Jason," also a guitarist.

While filming Camp Rock, the Jonas Brothers did even more work by writing several songs for fellow Disney Channel star and close friend, Demi Lovato, for her upcoming album.

The band have even made their way into the history books by being the first group to sell more than 100,000 digital downloads for three consecutive singles: "Burnin' Up", 183,000+ first week sales, "Play My Music", 109,000+ sales, and "Pushin' Me Away", 116,000+ sales. In addition, "Burnin' Up", "Pushin' Me Away", "Tonight", and "A Little Bit Longer" all charted at number one on the iTunes "Top Songs" Chart for several days.

If you aren't a fan of their music though, the Jonas boys might be able to win you over with their wholesome, family-friendly image. Yep,. that's right, the brothers are all committed Evangelical Christians and their father is a former pastor.

In addition, they all famously wear purity rings on their left-hand ring finger and have vowed not to have premarital sex - but didn't Britney Spears say the same thing? - so I wouldn't worry too much girls.

They started wearing the rings when their parents, Denise and Kevin Sr., asked them if they wanted to and they also reportedly abstain from alcohol, tobacco, and drugs; so what exactly they do for fun is beyond, but shouldn't some of them still be in school anyway?

Regardless of their virginity or boyish good looks, these boys have made it big before their voices have broken (okay, that might be a slight exaggeration) but they are without a doubt, one of the ones to watch for 2009.
