Heroes and Villains: 4

6 months ago 13th May 10:30

At number four today we look at two icons of cinema with Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker, a role that propelled him to fame, and a classic character of the horror genre Leatherface.

Hero: Luke Skywalker

The character of Luke Skywalker was the driving force behind the original Star Wars trilogy.

Played by Mark Hamill Skywalker lives a simple live on the planet of Tatooine with his aunt and uncle, who have kept his father's history from him.

He goes in search of Obi-Wan Kenobi when he finds two droids R2D2 and C3PO that carry a message from him. Obi-Wan tells Luke his father was a Jedi and was killed by Darth Vader.

After his aunt and uncle are killed by stormtroopers Luke, Obi-Wan and the two droids escape with Han Sole and Chewbacca on the Millennium Falcon to Alderaan.

The group sneak aboard the Death Star to rescue Princess Leia before Luke joins the rebel Alliance and helps destroy the Death Star.

The Empire Strikes Back is set three years later and Luke is still with the Alliance and is undergoing Jedi training under the watchful eye of Yoda.
