Spring Trend 09: Asymmetric On The High-Street

1 month ago 17th Nov 14:41

The spring trends are starting to filter through onto the high-street now, which you may think is odd considering that the weather is cold, wet and windy at present.

However, looking at what is set to be hot in the spring will definitely keep you one step ahead of the fashion pack, which can only be a good thing.

The catwalk was awash with asymmetric designs this SS09, with Luella, Jenny Peckham and others all giving us the hot shoulder treatment.

One shoulder designs are set to be big news come next year, which is great for those of you who have already embraced this trend, after it has already been hailed as a must-have this season.

Although this trend is set to be hot for this Christmas, the style and structure of next season’s dresses are a little different.

This season will see funky party dresses and ruffle tops, with sequins and studs being the main embellishments on the designs, giving it a more glamorous and slightly elegant feel.

However, next season we’re all set to tone it down a little bit, with a strong summer vibe coming through. So expect to see bright colours and prints make an appearance, and the design to become more relaxed, rather than severe and structured.

Luella’s candy coloured dresses that she featured on the runway back in September, had a very playful and fun vibe about them, which we think forecasts the theme for the summer.

Jenny Peckham too displayed a great range of grown-up Cinderella dresses, complete with very soft pastel colours and floaty fabrics, which gave them an almost ethereal quality.

We’ve searched the high-street for some hidden gems that will set you apart from the rest next summer…

Bow Style, £55, Lipsy

We're loving this cool combo of electric blue and black for the summer months. For spring time team this beauty with some tights and pumps, while in summer let loose with some bare legs and sandals.

Pretty Prom, £80, Warehouse

This pretty dress is divine, but possibly too dressy for the day time. With Prom season coming up in May, this would be a sound investment for an inspiring Prom Queen, but if you just love pretty dresses, this wil be great for all those summer functions you've been invited to!

Edgy Cool, £60, Alice McCall for Topshop

This sexy dress is a great replica of Luella's SS09 dress, as featured above. It's a versatile piece that can be dressed down in the day time with simple pumps or sandals, while in the evening you can really glam it up for a BBQ and after party. We like!
