George Davies, part-time chairman of Per Una has announced his retirement.

He will step down at then end of December after reports of a reshuffle in the womenswear division at Marks & Spencer.

Davies was responsible for launching the hugely successful Per Una label in 2001, after he was poached by M&S chief Stuart Rose.

Previous to that, Davies famously created and launched George at Asda, which heralded a new dawn for fashion by bringing it into the supermarket.

Rose said of his departure: "George has done a fantastic job in establishing Per Una and building it into a significant brand. We are immensely grateful to him for all he has done for M&S."
