2009's Berlin Film Festival will be opened by political thriller The International which stars Clive Owen and Naomi Watts.
The film follows Interpol Agent Louis Salinger (Owen) and Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Eleanor Whitman (Watts) who are determined to bring to justice one of the world’s most powerful bank. Uncovering myriad and reprehensible illegal activities, Salinger and Whitman follow the money from Berlin to Milan to New York to Istanbul.
Finding themselves in a high-stakes chase across the globe, their relentless tenacity puts their own lives at risk as their targets will stop at nothing, even murder, to continue financing terror and war.
The International is directed by Tom Tykwer who is most famous for his 1998 movie Run Lola Run and adapted Patrick Suskind's novel Perfume.
Oscar winning actress Tilda Swinton will head the jury of actor, filmmakers and producers who will choose the winner of the festival's coveted prize the Golden and Silver Bear during the festival which will run from 5th - 15th February.
