Shia LaBeouf was "terrified" when a CIA agent played one of his own telephone calls back to him.
The 'Transformers' star says he was originally sceptical abut the subject matter of his newest film 'Eagle Eye', which claims people are always under surveillance, but soon changed his mind after working with intelligence specialists.
Shia revealed: "There was a CIA agent who was working on the movie with us, and he told me all this insane stuff, like that one in five phone calls is recorded and documented. To that I was laughing. And then he said, 'No, really,' and proceeded to play for me a phone call I had made two years prior to signing on to the film. It's pretty terrifying."
The film sees Shia's character become a manhunt target after he is framed for treason, with his only help coming from a mystery voice at the end of the telephone who seems to control all of the country's electronic devices - yet the 22-year-old star insists the plot is realistic.
He added to MTV: "This isn't a sci-fi fantasy thing. This is a very real world we made this movie in. The film, and the ideas behind it, are all very tangible.
"ADT security boxes and microphones can be activated and used for any number of reasons. OnStar in your car ? somebody in Arizona could shut off your car if you're in Washington with the click of a button. There's a lot of power in it, and it's a very real thing."
