Robert De Niro's Pacino casting

2 months ago 15th Sep 13:30

Robert De Niro claims it was his idea to cast Al Pacino alongside him in 'Righteous Kill'.

Oscar winners Robert and Al appear onscreen together for the first time in 14 years in the movie, playing a pair of New York detectives trying to catch a serial killer and Robert is taking credit for his co-star's inclusion after recommending him to director Jon Avnet.

He said: "We were talking about casting the movie and I said 'What about Al?' and Jon just grabbed on to that.

"Some people seem to have forgotten that although we were both in 'Godfather II', we didn't have any scenes together. We did 'Heat', and even though we were only together for a few minutes on screen, it was great."

De Niro also confirmed he is hoping to direct more of his own films in the future because he gets frustrated working under someone else's control.

He added to Parade.com: "I've always wanted to make my own choices. When I act with another director like Jon Avnet, I always support them 1000 per cent.

"But sometimes, on a film when I'm be acting, I think, 'I wouldn't do it this way. I'd really like to do this another way.' So I guess I do want to have that control, which is why I want to direct again. But of course with that comes the responsibility."
