Planet of the Apes return

A new 'Planet of the Apes' movie is being made.

Reportedly titled 'Caesar', the prequel will reportedly be directed by 'The Lookout' helmer Scott Frank, though no casting details have yet been announced.

Tom Rothman of 20th Century Fox is quoted as saying: "We are very close at Fox on a new 'Apes' script- this one a kind of prequel story before the first story, with a return to the social thematics that mark the first one, but with an entirely contemporary setting - Earth 2009.'

The new movie will focus on the origins of how the apes took over Earth, with a human-raised hyper-intelligent creature inciting an ape revolution to cause the downfall of mankind - similar to the theme of 1972's 'Conquest of the Planet of the Apes', which starred Roddy McDowall as ape leader Caesar.

A 'Planet of the Apes' remake was released in 2001, starring Mark Wahlberg, Tim Roth and Helena Bonham Carter, but it is unclear whether they have been asked to feature in the new movie.
