Estelle: 'My Fans Are Friends'....
British singer/rapper Estelle thinks of her fans as friends - because her music makes them happy.
The American Boy singer is pleased that people appreciate her songs and loves the understated reaction she experiences when she meets fans.
She says, "A couple of months ago in New York no-one really knew me but now I walk around and people recognise me.
"It's cool because they give me the same reaction they would a friend: 'Oh, that's Estelle,' rather than some dumbstruck crazy.
"I like that. A lot of fans feel more like friends to me, especially those that tell me my album has helped them get through difficult times. That's what I do this for."
Meanwhile in other news the British singer Estelle has defended Kanye West's enormous ego - insisting more artists should have his confidence.
West has long been criticised for being less than modest about his music.
But Estelle - who collaborated with the rapper on her hit single American Boy - is convinced he has a right to be proud of his successful career.
She tells E! online, "People say what they say about his ego, but he's very sure of himself and I think that's a great way to be." West recently stunned fans by opting to perform at Sunday's (07Sep08) MTV Video Music Awards - just a year after he vowed never to attend the ceremony again, after losing out on several awards in 2007.
And Estelle is sure that West never intended to keep his promise.
She adds, "I'm sure it was all planned. I think people want to see what he'll bring after all of that and I think they're going to be pleasantly surprised and happy with it."
