Waggit's Tale

4 months ago 14th Aug 10:15

A heart-warming tale about a puppy who finds a new home with a pack of wild dogs when his owner abandons him in New York’s Central Park.

Waggit finds himself lost one night in Central Park. Naïve and frightened, he meets Tazar, an older dog who offers him shelter and a meal with his gang of stray dogs.

But life for the wild dogs is harsh, with the constant threat of starvation, fights with other packs of dogs and the fear of being taken to the "great unknown" (the dog pound) by the humans who patrol the park.

Waggit is initially wary of the other dogs, but quickly realises he’s been abandoned by his owner and acknowledges that he’s going to have to learn fast if he wants to survive But can he face his fears and become a true member of the pack, or will the yearning to be owned again lead him away from his new friends?

Filled with emotion, drama, action and humour, Waggit’s Tale charts the adventures of a bold cast of characters who display a wonderfully feisty attitude but underneath are full of compassion and warmth. A tale of hardship, friendship and triumph over adversity.

Peter Howe was born in London and has lived in New York for thirty years, where he currently resides with his wife and two dogs.

He is a former Life and New York Times Magazine picture editor, and the author of two books on photography. Waggit’s Tale is his first novel for children, and is based on the real life of his dog, Roo, whom he found abandoned in Central Park in 1981.
