A British man has died following a chilli eating contest.

Andrew Lee, 33 - an aspiring chef - had challenged his girlfriend's brother to see who could eat the spiciest sauce he could make.

After making a condiment from the red chillies grown on his father's estate, Andrew ate the sauce but experienced "severe discomfort and itching".

The following morning, Andrew was found dead, and is believed to have suffered from a heart attack.

Andrew's sister, Claire Chadbourne, 29, said: "It is incredible. Who would have thought he could have died from eating chilli sauce?"

An inquest was opened and adjourned. Toxicology tests are being undertaken to determine whether Andrew suffered an allergic reaction to the chillies.
